Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in our golden
retrievers. I began with my first golden retriever in 1980.
Initially interested in obedience training and competition I soon
learned to appreciate the dogs being shown in conformation and
purchased my first show dog from Gilnockie kennels in Denver. Soon
thereafter I entered veterinary school and had to control my zest
for spending money to travel and show my dogs. In 1989 the first
litter was born: 15 years later I am enjoying the fourth
generation of my breeding program. My love for the breed is now
being drawn towards acquiring my judging license with the American
Kennel Club. My goal is to get licensed to judge all the sporting
breeds within the next 10 years.
Since beginning, I have met and been mentored by many wonderful
people who have chosen the golden retriever breed as their canine
soul mate. Along with them, I will do my best to make sure the
breed continues to have the qualities that make them great
companions. I am a current member, treasurer and show chairman of
Kansas City Golden Retriever Club.
Periodically I have puppies and
older dogs available
for sale. All of the breedings are planned well in advance in
order to select sires and dams whose pedigrees and qualities will
produce puppies who are as good or better in quality than their
parents. My goal is to produce puppies of sound mind and
temperament who make excellent companions for the families they
live with while maturing to the standard set forth by the Golden
Retriever Club of America.
Only those parents who
have hip, eye and heart clearances are used in my breeding
program. The golden retriever breed is one afflicted with hip
dysplasia, cataracts and the heart disease, sub-aortic stenosis.
The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and the Canine Eye
Registry Foundation (CERF) issue certificates of clearances for
hips and eyes respectively. In some instances, a parent may not
have CERF certificate but the ophthalmologists clearance is
available in its place. I breed only those individuals with heart
clearances. Unfortunately, breeding normal parents is not a
guarantee that the puppies will be free of any of the above
problems. Much like normal people can have children affected with
unsuspected problems, so does this occur in dogs.
Once the litter arrives, we spend a great deal of
time with them. Early subordination exercises begin, followed
exposure to many sights, sounds and stimuli. Oftentimes, we will
have the puppies somewhat house trained by the time they go home
in other words, we get up early and get the puppies outside and
they learn not to potty in their den. This early socialization
produces puppies which are very people oriented. They don't
struggle when they are held and they are very social.
We wean the puppies on to Science Diet Large Breed Growth. This
diet has been formulated to provide a balanced diet that does not
promote the development of canine hip dysplasia. All of our
puppies have been de-wormed several times and will have received
their first vaccinations. Depending on where you live, if you
choose to take your puppy to Oxford Animal Hospital, (Overland
Park, KS) you will receive a 25% discount on vaccinations, fecal
exams, internal parasite treatment and elective surgery until the
puppy is one year old. For your convenience, they are open 7days a
week and offer full medical, boarding and grooming services.
We
sell the pet quality puppies for $1,000.00.
Occasionally, we have show-quality puppies available for pet
homes; Show quality puppies are $1600.00. In order to be fair to
all who call and visit, a 50% deposit will secure a pet quality
male or female puppy from our litter. When the time puppies are 7
½ to 8 ½ weeks old, we will invite people back in the order their
deposits were received to choose their puppy. At that time, we
will give you our recommendation of the puppy whose personality
and disposition best fits the family you have. All puppies sold
as pets must be spayed or neutered. All puppies sold to pet homes
will be placed with a
limited AKC registration. This registration is meant to
let the AKC know that the breeder never intended for this dog to
be shown in conformation or be bred. You can however, still enter
a dog with limited registration in any 4-H, obedience, or agility
event if you desire.
